Lets face it, if you are looking for great campsites you are spoilt for choice in the Lake District. We think this one in  Buttermere makes a perfect get away from it all,  with truly idyllic surroundings. Leave your car in the free car park and lug your kit over the stream to find your spot. Lake District camping at its best.

A spectacular setting.

The site is perfectly situated between two glorious swimming lakes, Buttermere and Crummock water…..

The facilities are basic and there is no shop on site but the tiny village of Buttermere is only a few minutes walk away with two great pubs, a farm shop, two cafés and a bus stop,  not to mention the heavenly locally made ice cream. If you want to gain a bit of height there are plenty of peaks to choose from including Haystacks and Red Pike .

If you are after more adventurous hiking and climbing we would also recommend the impressive National Trust campsite http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/camping/camping-in-the-lake-district/wasdale/   at Wasdale  Head. This makes an excellent base for climbing Scafell and other high fells.

Also camping at Langdale  for the langdale pikes http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/camping/camping-in-the-lake-district/great-langdale/ Both are surrounded by high fells, fantastic walks and both have good pubs nearby.
