The Lonely Tree or Lone Tree of Llyn Padarn is a stunted birch tree growing close to the shore of Llyn Padarn near Llanberis in North Wales.
The tree is perched on top of a small stony island in shallow water on the edge of the lake. The beauty spot attracts visitors from far and wide eager to take a photograph. With the stunning backdrop of the Eryri National Park with Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa directly in front, it’s difficult to take a bad photograph. Yet everyone is eager to get their own unique perspective. Even on a damp December morning it is an inspiring and atmospheric scene and we were lucky to have the place completely to ourselves to take it all in.
To find the Lone Tree of Padarn, head for the Padarn Country Park an 800 acre park on the south eastern end of Llyn Padarn. From the car park you will see a path leading you through woodland and past several benches. The tree is located in front of the third or fourth bench, about a 2 minute walk from the car park. You can immediately see why the tree has become an iconic emblem for Snowdonia.
