So, you’ve always fancied trying climbing but you’ve never had the confidence to give it a go?
It’s only for the super fit, super active, who are all as thin as wire and as light as feathers….Right?
Well, no…Wrong.
Climbing is for everyone. It really doesn’t matter if you’ve never done it before. If you fancy giving it a go….it’s all out there for you.
Climbing is a fun activity for the young and old, and there are many courses and clubs across the UK to help get you started. It is a very varied and exhilarating sport and there are so many fabulous climbs in the uk it’s no wonder it is becoming more and more popular.
Top rope climbing…..
Climbing offers so many choices. These range from indoor climbing walls, through to long routes in the mountains. There really is something for everyone. Will you prefer limestone or granite, snow or ice? single or multi pitches? indoor or outdoor? bouldering, lead climbing or soloing? Sport (bolted) or traditional climbing? The options are endless.
Our favourite climbs in the UK are the long mountain multi pitch routes such as Grooved Arete on the mountain of Tryfan. When not in the mountains routes such as Commando Ridge, Bosigran in Cornwall are hard to beat for incredible sea cliff climbing.
Climbing routes are all graded according to technical ability. In the UK Rock climbing grades for climbing routes can be found in the relevant guidebooks which are available in outdoor shops. They are graded according to ability and skill and also take into account other things such as how exposed the route is and the levels of “protection” there is. They begin at difficult/very difficult and go on to extreme grades for experienced climbers. The climbs not only vary in technical difficulty but can also can be single or multi pitch routes There are also grades for scrambling, snow and ice and alpine climbing,
