A short circular walk with panoramic countryside views from Cracks Hill, Crick
Allow about an hour.
We combined the walk with a visit to both the Magnolia Tearooms and the Crick Garden Centre just outside the village of Crick on the A428. There is plenty of parking.
From the car park cross the main road and drop down onto the canal at the road bridge. Turn right (keeping left along the towpath with the canal on your right). Walk along the Grand Union Canal past the marina until you reach bridge number 13.
When you reach the bridge 13 turn left and go over the bridge following the footpath. When we visited in April the blackthorn trees that line the footpath were covered in beautiful blossom heralding the arrival of warmer weather.
To your right there is access to a lovely woodland and picnic area, a wonderful tranquil site. You will be able to see Cracks Hill to your left (with a ring of mature trees around the top), head upwards.
Follow the path which leads you to the viewpoint at the top of the hill.
Although the climb is gentle you are rewarded with lovely views stretching out over Northamptonshire countryside and along the Grand Union Canal.
The path down towards the bridge (number 14) is steeper but you soon reach the bridge.
Cross over the bridge and turn left, following the towpath along the canal back to the start point.
