Two varied short walks combining lakeside paths, bays and peaceful woodland. Stunning views over Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.
Both walks begin at ‘Keswick Theatre by the Lake’ car park.
Walk one;
2 miles, allow 1-1.5 hours
Head down to the lake and follow the easy lakeside path to Strandshag Bay, enjoying the views across Derwentwater towards Catbells as you walk.
From Strandshag bay take the path on the left towards Cockshot wood, you can see the wooded hill, Castlehead to your right.
The path leads into woodland. Take the next path on the right through the field. At the end of the field cross over the road and through Castlehead woods leading to Castlehead viewpoint. Some sections have roots and uneven ground but the views from the top are wonderful.
From the viewpoint retrace your steps back to the woods, turn right and walk back to the carpark through the woods.
Walk two

From the lake follow the easy lakeside path again to Strandshag Bay.
Continue past Strandshag Bay, following the lake along the board walkway and through wooded sections until you reach Calfclose Bay where there’s a distinctive carved stone marking the millennium in the water.
From Calfclose Bay cross over the road and head into Great Wood. There is a beautiful circular trail through the wood (about 40 mins).
