If you want to immerse yourself in nature, or simply enjoy a relaxing walk through  woodland, there’s no better place to visit than the Wilverley Inclosure in the heart of the New Forest.

The Wilverley Inclosure can be found half way between the New Forest’s towns of Brockenhurst and Burley, just north of Sway.

It’s a wonderfully peaceful and tranquil managed forested area with a diverse mix of old and new conifer and broadleaved trees.

Near the car park there are picnic tables and toilet facilities. There are also lots of benches en route to sit and absorb the forest atmosphere.

From the car park there’s a clearly signposted trail to follow, either on foot or by bike.  It’s around 4 km with only gradual gradients.  As this waymarked trail is gravelled, it’s easy under foot.

A gentle stroll will take between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on how often you stop to enjoy the trees, the peace and the quiet.

Deer can be spotted nestling among young conifers, and bats enjoy and breed in the broadleaved trees.

Despite everything there is to offer, and its facilities, surprising few people seem to visit and enjoy the experience.

When we were there we hardly saw another soul.
