When we visited Thyme in Southdrop for a family celebration we were not surprised to learn that the garden had been designed from scratch by Bunny Guiness. Bunny is a regular on gardeners question time BBC radio 4 and has achieved a gold medal several times at the Chelsea flower show.

The garden at Thyme was landscaped beautifully and the planting carefully selected.

No expense has been spared in the creation of this contemporary garden.

The courtyard garden includes lots of lovely seating areas, surrounded by a variety of trees and formal hedging which work perfectly coupled with the more naturalistic planting in the gravel borders.

When we visited in June the roses looked wonderful against the purple nepeta…

I loved the metal furniture, particularly the circular seating around the trees …

and the benches within the hornbeam archways…

There are gorgeous pleached pear trees giving height planted and then edged with small stone square bricks…

The stone paving compliments the surrounding buildings really well. Gravel borders are loosely planted with perennials such as grasses, lavender and profusion daisies giving a relaxed feel. These gravel areas reminded me of the coastal gardens at the Gallivant hotel at Camber sands, Rye which are some of the nicest I’ve seen.

I loved the line of huge olive trees under planted with clipped box hedge and mediteranean herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Large terracota pots add to the generel mediterranean feel.

The lawn provides a nice contrast, shades of green dominate the garden which brings a sense of calm.
